Overview
The atomic force microscope (AFM) is one of the most powerful tools for determining the surface topography of native biomolecules at subnanometer resolution. Unlike X-ray crystallography and electron microscopy (EM), the AFM allows biomolecules to be imaged not only under physiological conditions, but also while biological processes are at work.
